BenQ broadens TV line with rear-projection model

BenQ is showing its first rear-projection TV model at the Cebit trade show in Hanover, Germany.

Taiwanese electronics maker BenQ announced Thursday that it plans to offer rear-projection televisions alongside its line of LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs.

The company is showing a 72-inch rear-projection model, the RP7270, at its booth at the Cebit exhibition, which opens Thursday in Hanover, Germany, BenQ said. Based on a DLP (Digital Light Projection) projection system from Texas Instruments Inc., the RP7270 supports HDTV (high-definition TV) and offers a 1,500:1 contrast ratio, WXGA resolution (1,280 pixels by 720 pixels), and 500 nits brightness, it said.

Pricing and availability for the RP7270 was not disclosed. Cebit runs through March 16.
