NetComm, Caught On Camera in IP video partnership

 • 27 October, 2004 10:35

SYDNEY, October 27, 2004 – NetComm has formed an alliance with leading security systems integrator, Caught On Camera to jointly develop and market digital, IP video surveillance solutions to organisations and residential users.

Both companies enjoy leadership in the Australian security market and will together address growing demand for innovative and affordable security and monitoring applications.

“We are now at an important crossroads in the security technology market, whereby the mainstream adoption of broadband networks such as ADSL is intersecting with better compression and management for digital video and computing in general,” NetComm managing director David Stewart said.

NetComm continues to develop clever IP camera and video server solutions, recently announcing the industry-first NS4540 ‘Pan-Tilt’ IP camera, featuring Web-based management and an enhanced chipset for handling streaming JPEG, MJPEG and real-time video over networks.

Australia’s leading security systems integrator, Caught on Camera will develop and market NetComm’s wide range of IP camera and communications products to address the growing demand for flexible and affordable security solutions across government, business and the home.

“We have found that over the last 18 months consumer awareness of the power, flexibility, and especially, price of IP-based systems is now translating into spending,” Caught On Camera managing director, Myles Larden said.

Not only are IP-systems emerging as the preferred alternative to CCTV, but because of their simplicity and direct compatibility with standard IT environments they are able to support a broad array of applications beyond just security.

“There is a whole new customer base emerging for sophisticated IP video technology,” Mr Larden said, adding: “We now find that for many organisations digital is in fact the only solution.”

Recent projects have included developing systems for Veterinary clinics to allow better monitoring of animals, while others have focussed on allowing organisations such as construction companies and schools to monitor sites remotely.

Digital systems are also far more effective than analogue at syncronsing audio and deliver much higher levels of security. NetComm and Caught On Camera are currently researching ways to integrate biometric identification systems into IP cameras with a prototype expected to be ready early next year. Other innovations include ‘motion-non-detection’ whereby objects that appear to have been left or abandoned trigger an alert.

Analyst groups have projected that the lower cost and superior flexibility of IP-based security systems will ensure that they overtake proprietary CCTV ( Closed Circuit TV) systems as the defacto platform for home and business security. Frost and Sullivan recently projected that the global market would be worth US$1 billion by next year.

About NetComm

NetComm is Australia’s leading provider of broadband solutions with a commanding position across the key markets of DSL, wireless, routing, high-speed networking and digital surveillance systems. The company is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX: NTC).
