Launchpad set for Samsung notebooks

Notebook newcomer, Samsung Electronics, will release four models on November 5 to mark its entry into the local market.

The models to be launched were the X10+, X15+, X30 and P35, a company spokesperson said. All notebooks would be based on Intel's Centrino platform. The spokesperson refused to release further product details.

Samsung signalled its plan to enter the Australian notebook market earlier this year, but has since kept product and release details under wraps. The vendor has sold notebooks in overseas markets for some time. In the UK, the three X models range from 1.6GHz to 1.8GHz processor speed. All four include DVD/CD-RW drives.

It has not been confirmed, however, whether the Australian products will follow overseas specifications.

Samsung is expected to target the premium end of the notebook market as it has with other products, including mobile phones, in its consumer electronics and IT division.

The vendor will receive notebook stock on November 1, before making the products available through distributors and retailers. Three companies will distribute the notebooks.

Tech Pacific and Ingram Micro were likely candidates, Samsung said.
