<p>iVEC, ‘The hub of advanced computing in Western Australia’, is pleased to announce the successful recipients of the iVEC Industry Uptake Grant Scheme:
• Phinar Software
• Curtin University of Technology &amp; Endovascular Therapies
• UWA-CET, CSIRO EM, Fractal Technologies, Royal Perth Hospital, ISA Technologies, Australia Synchrotron &amp; the Perth Mint</p>
<p>Through the grant scheme iVEC is co-funding three projects extending the areas of software development, surgery and geology and are aimed at promoting the use and uptake of high performance computing (HPC) and visualisation within Western Australia by industry.</p>
<p>Applications were sought from industry, government, education, public and private organisations iVEC is funding the three successful projects on a matching basis with industry partners. Projects will commence on July 1 2006 and be completed within a year.</p>
<p>The successful projects are:
“X10 – Distributed software framework”
Phinar Software
X10 will provide developers of specialistic industrial or scientific applications with a framework that will take care of the management and user interface aspects of distributed components seeing an end to the need to invest in the writing of costly supporting systems.</p>
<p>“3D stereoscopic visualisation of abdominal aortic aneurysm and stent graft: Assessment of role in preoperative planning of fenestrated stent graft”
Curtin University of Technology &amp; Endovascular Therapies
The treatment of aortic aneurysms will benefit through this study’s use of 3D stereoscopic visualisation in order to improve the vascular surgeons’ understanding of 3D relationship between aortic branches and endoluminal stent grafts.</p>
<p>“3D visualisation and analysis of geological objects”
UWA-CET, CSIRO EM, Fractal Technologies, Royal Perth Hospital, ISA Technologies, Australia Synchrotron &amp; the Perth Mint
This project will develop visualisation and interpretation methodologies for large geological datasets obtained by x-ray tomography and synchrotron analysis to analyse shape, frequency and spatial distribution of physical and chemical contrasts in solid matter.</p>
