Telstra and Nokia don't ring true

According to a news report published today, Telstra WAP product manager Mark Whitmore admitted that the carrier has been experiencing connectivity problems between its Wireless Application Protocol server and all Nokia 7110 WAP handsets.

The Nokia 7110 is Australia's highest-selling WAP-enabled mobile.

However, Telstra MobileNet and Nokia customer service operators told IDG yesterday there had been no operational problems reported with the telco's WAP venture.

It is not known how long Telstra has been aware of the interoperability problems, but the telco's estimated 4000 WAP customers have still not been notified of any faults.

The glitch is understood to be caused by interoperability problems between the externally manufactured browser within the Nokia 7110 handset and Telstra's WAP server.

Telstra is expected to send instructions to its WAP users via SMS text message to contact local phone resellers to get upgraded, compatible browser software.
