iiNet to Install IronPort Email Security Appliance

 • 29 October, 2004 09:47

Rapidly growing ISP to enhance already acclaimed service levels with appliance-based reputation filtering, anti-spam and anti-virus facilities for customers across Australia and New Zealand

IronPort Systems™, the world’s leading email security company, today announced that Perth-based Internet Service Provider (ISP), iiNet Limited (ASX: IIN), has selected the IronPort C-Series™ Email Security Appliance. Three IronPort C60 high-performance email security appliances will be installed at iiNet operations in Australia and a further two C60s will be deployed at ihug operations in New Zealand. ihug became part of the iiNet Group in 2003.

iiNet will use the IronPort email security appliances to deliver world-class email anti-spam and anti-virus protection to its rapidly growing customer community.

One of Australia’s Internet service pioneers, iiNet commenced in Perth in 1993. Today, the iiNet Group has more than 400,000 customers throughout Australia and New Zealand and was voted ‘Top ISP in overall customer service’ and ‘Top ISP in customer satisfaction’ in the most recent Internet Survey conducted by AC Neilsen Consult.

Michael J. Bosch, Managing Director of IronPort Systems in Australia and New Zealand said his company’s C60 appliance – the world’s fastest email content scanning engine – was specifically designed to meet the critical throughput needs of ISPs and large enterprises. The C10 and C30 systems meet the needs of other sectors.

iiNet will also use IronPort’s SenderBase reputation filter which allows ISPs to scan mail coming into their gateways in order to quickly assess its legitimacy before forwarding it. The ongoing effectiveness of SenderBase is made possible because more than 25 per cent of the world’s email traffic runs through IronPort.

Other IronPort value-adds include Symantec Brightmail Anti-Spam® and Sophos Anti-Virus™ which are an integral component of all IronPort email security appliances.
