Sophisticated pop-up blocker returns control over
PCs to their owners

Sydney, 7 October 2004 -- Conexus, a leading specialist distributor of enterprise, education and entertainment technologies for Windows and Macintosh, today announced the release in Australia of Webroot Pop Up Washer, which eliminates the single most annoying aspect of surfing the web -- pop-up ads.

"Families, schools and businesses don't invest in internet access so they will be bombarded by intrusive and sometimes offensive pop-up ads, robbing them of the time and bandwidth that they would otherwise devote to work, study or play," said David Murray, Managing Director, Conexus. "We believe that parents, teachers and employers should be able to protect their PCs from this imposition, which is why we're proud to be distributing Webroot Pop Up Washer to retailers across Australia."

Pop Up Washer is the latest of the market-leading privacy and security tools from Webroot Software to be distributed in Australia by Conexus. Spy Sweeper, another tool in this range, detects, eliminates and blocks spyware, while Window Washer wipes all traces of personal activity that can be left by applications such as Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player and KaZaa.

Pop Up Washer features in detail

Smart Pop-Up Management. Gives you complete control over the pop-up windows you do and do not see, featuring advanced technology that stops annoying ads that other pop-up stoppers can't. Pop Up Washer allows you to see desirable pop-ups by enabling one-click additions to an "allow-list" for trusted sites like online shopping or financial institutions. It also automatically identifies user-initiated and navigational pop-up windows to ensure you get key information needed to use your favourite sites.

Transparent Removal. Stops pop-ups at the Internet Explorer engine before they appear, preventing screen flickers or blinking.

Disable Messenger Service. Blocks Windows Messenger Service spam windows that appear as grey boxes on the desktop without affecting items such as MSN/AOL Instant Messaging.

One-click Activation. Turn pop-up blocking on or off by simply clicking the Pop Up Washer icon on the task bar.

Total Number Of Pop-Ups Blocked. Provides a running tally of the number of pop-ups that Pop Up Washer has prevented from reaching your computer.

Customisable Audio Notification. Allows you to select from one of five sounds to play whenever Pop Up Washer blocks a pop-up advertisement.

Log Files Of All Ads Stopped. Pop Up Washer gives you the option of keeping a log of all blocked pop-up URLs sent to your web browser.

Pricing, Availability and System Requirements

Pop Up Washer supports Windows 98 SE, 2000, ME or XP or NT 4. It works with Internet Explorer only. The software is priced at $49.95 and is available now through retailers nationwide.
