Compuware readies tools for Microsoft apps development

Compuware plans to enhance its suite of products for the Microsoft development platform, with tools to improve application performance, code quality, and security.

Debuting next year concurrently with Microsoft's Visual Studio 2005 toolset, the next major release of Compuware's DevPartner Studio will provide developers with actionable advice on changing code to boost application performance, Compuware product manager for DevPartner Studio, Peter Varhol, said. Compuware does not yet have a version number assigned to the product.

Compuware's planned security analysis product for Microsoft application developers, which is thus far unnamed, will provide static source code analysis for security holes. It also will perform attack simulations at run-time. "We'll throw attacks at (an application) to make sure that it handles them appropriately," Varhol said. The product will be intended for ASP .Net-based development.

A third product, also unnamed at this point, will simulate common error conditions such as lack of memory, low disk space, and network disconnections. "It enables developers and testers to re-create error conditions so that they can produce reliable error-handling code," Varhol said.

The security analysis product is expected out late in the year or early in 2005, with the error simulation offering due to follow two weeks afterward.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.
