89% of Chinese information workers use smartphones at work

Eighty-nine percent of Chinese information workers use smartphones at work, according to Forrester's second annual Forrsights Workforce Employee Survey.
Forty-nine percent of these workers use Android phones but 45 percent plan to use iPhones and only 28 percent plan to use Android phones. Fourteen percent plan to buy a Windows Phone and although only three percent intend to buy a Blackberry, this percentage may increase due to the recent launch of BlackBerry 10.
The global data overview focusing on mobile workforce adoption reveals that Android phones are currently being used by more information workers than iPhones.
Only 16 percent of information workers are using iPhones these days but 33 percent said it will be their next work smartphone. In fact, iPhone's popularity is set to increase in the coming days as Forrester says 208 million information workers want an iPhone for their next work smartphone.
Forrester's survey also shows that the percentage of anytime, anywhere workers has increased from 23 percent in 2011 to 29 percent in 2012. These employees have three or more devices, work from multiple locations, and use multiple apps.
Steady rise of tablets
Use of tablets across the world is gradually increasing and about 905 million tablets will be in use for work and home globally by 2017.
Another Forrester's report '2013 Mobile Workforce Adoption Trends' shows that 32 percent want a Windows tablet and 36 percent want to put in money to get the computer of their choice.
One-fourth of information workers are using tablets, 22 percent use a file sync/share solution like Dropbox and 70 percent of employees using Dropbox use it for work or personal files.
Forrester advises CIOs to develop a very deep marketing understanding of their employees and try to understand the reason they are using technology for.
CIOs can provision the right services on the right devices by segmenting employees' mobile and application requirements. They can also use bring-your-own-device (BYOD) as an opportunity to outsource cost to employees.
