Use the Meat Cuts app to identify various cuts of red meat, and get tips on how to cook them.
If you have trouble recognising your rump from your tenderloin, you probably need the Meat Cuts app, which gives you a visual breakdown of the different parts of beef, lamb, veal, and goat. Yes, goat. (Our Mobile Editor, Tony Ibrahim loves goat.)
The app has been launched by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) and is available from the App Store for Apple, or from Google Play for Android -- no meaty love for Windows Phone, it seems. The main goal of the app is to allow you to more easily identify the various cuts of red meat that are available, and how to cook them in the most ideal way.
Unless you’re a dedicated carnivore, you might be surprised at the large number of meat cuts that are available, with the app showcasing 41 beef cuts, 25 lamb cuts, 21 veal cuts, and 20 goat cuts. You get a visual on the app so you can see exactly where the cut originates.
Seeing meat cuts visually drawn on animals might even have the opposite effect of putting you off eating that cute little lamb or goat. But for the most part, it looks like a delicious little app that will come in handy while deciding what to buy while staring at the meat fridges in the supermarket.
