Cinema 4D XL
- 01 June, 2000 14:55
The Cinema 4D documentation is greatly improved. Previous versions had excellent reference manuals, but lacked tutorials and examples. The latest documentation includes both reference and tutorial manuals, and Maxon has also commissioned a series of video training tapes.
Major new professional features include hypernurbs, metaballs, enhanced modelling tools, parametric primitives, deformation tools and symmetry objects. There are extended boning functions, special effects and enhanced lighting and shadow capabilities plus MIP and SAT texture mapping.
Also beefed up are the character animation capabilities. In previous versions, this was a weak area.
In use, Cinema 4D XL is very intuitive and fast. Using hypernurbs, complex models can be created very quickly. Cinema 4D is also acknowledged to have the fastest raytracer on the market.
There are far too many functions to list here, but it's fair to say that Cinema 4D can now hold its own with the heavyweights of the 3D modelling and animation industry such as Lightwave, 3DMax and Electric Image. A non-saving demonstration download for both Macintosh and PC computers is available from the Maxon Web site.
