Looking for an Unix Systems Engineer experienced in IBM System-P and AIX

Sydney

The organization is seeking a highly experienced Unix System Engineer responsible for Implementing and assisting in the coordination of deployment and upgrade projects.



Key Accountabilities:

  • Working with architects and other staff to create solution designs.
  • The development and implementation of Unix based solutions as per design.
  • The upgrade of existing Unix based solutions to agreed service levels.
  • The provision of day to day support for project infrastructure prior to project completion.
  • The provision of an appropriate project, client, and handover documentation.
  • Liaise and coordinate with other staff assigned to projects to ensure delivery of project dependencies.
  • Provide input and feedback for project plans; manage own workload to achieve results to agreed standards and within agreed timeframes and priorities; provide reports of progress as required, including management reports.
  • Provide consultation to clients on infrastructure related issues relating to business applications.
  • Ensure that all project work is implemented in compliance with the relevant documented policies, including architectural and security standards.


Key Capabilities/Qualifications/Experience:
  • Tertiary qualifications in a computing-related field and/or vendor certifications inappropriate technologies and/or relevant experience.
  • Broad knowledge (backed by at least 3 yrs experience) in the design and implementation of Unix based infrastructure in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience in the design, implementation, management, and support of the following:
    • Expert level knowledge of IBM System-P including VIO servers
    • AIX
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (versions 6/7)
    • Enterprise server hardware, especially Cisco UCS
    • OS build processes, including Red Hat Satellite server OS deployments
    • VMware vSphere / virtualisation
    • Samba / Winbind / SSSD / CTDB / Unix for AD
    • Web servers (typically Apache, Tomcat), FTP, DNS
    • Scripting tools such as Bash, Perl, Python
    • Enterprise security requirements at the Operating System level, including determining firewall and networking requirements for server deployments and remediating security issues
    • Network and application load balancing / web farms / NetScaler
    • Knowledge of Active Directory
    • Backup software, including Symantec Netbackup
  • Experience in coordinating small projects to deliver solutions to clients in conformity to standards in a complex business and technical environment
  • A self-starter with the ability to independently manage their own workload to agreed priorities and timelines across multiple projects; to work as part of a small technical team; to be highly analytical and well organized.
  • Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; familiarity with ITIL, change management and standard project management methodologies as well as time tracking and project reporting environments.
