ASUS has unveiled its new Transformer Pad Infinity, a top of the line Android tablet with a 10.1in 2560x1600 IPS screen. It's an upgrade to last year's TF700T model with the same name and also has the ability to output 4K content via a HDMI port.

ASUS lifted the lid on the new Transformer Pad Infinity at the Computex trade show in Taipei in early June. However, the company was a little light on details, so much so that the model number of the new Transformer Pad Infinity has not yet been revealed.

What we do know is that the Transformer Pad Infinity will immediately become one of the most powerful Android tablets on the market. The real wow factor is set to be the display. With a resolution of 2560x1600, it betters the latest 4th Generation iPad's 2048-by-1536 resolution and equals the resolution of the Google Nexus 10. This should mean crisp and sharp text and a huge amount of detail.

Transformer Pad Infinity devices have traditionally been equipped with powerful specifications and the latest model is no different. It has a 1.9GHz quad-core Tegra 4 processor, comes with 2GB of RAM and includes 32GB of internal memory. There's also a microSD card slot on the tablet itself and a full-sized SD card slot and a USB 3.0 port on the keyboard dock, which is likely to be sold as a bundle with the device.

One new feature is that could be very useful in the coming months is the ability to handle 4K video. ASUS says the Transformer Pad Infinity has enough power to enable 4K video output through the HDMI-out port. It's an impressive feature on paper, but given the lack of 4K content currently available it's a future proof function more than anything.

The Transformer Pad Infinity's keyboard dock will once again have a built-in battery, but ASUS has not yet revealed any specific details. The previous TF700T model was rated a 10 hours of battery life as a stand alone tablet and 16 hours if the keyboard dock is connected, so we expect battery life figures to be similar.

The new Transformer Pad Infinity has the same metallic spun finish as last year's TF700T model.

Other features of the new ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity include a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.

ASUS is expected to release the Transformer Pad Infinity in the coming months, but the company currently has "no local availability or pricing information".
