High-end graphics: Albatron 9800GX2-1GX

  • You can see that the card will have two DVI ports, in addition to an HDMI port – no need for DVI-HDMI adapters any more. Essentially, the 9800 GX2 will slot in above the 8800 Ultra, so you can expect to pay close to, if not over, $1000 for it.

  • Looking for a new graphics card? Well, Albatron has let the cat out of the bag regarding what its cards based on NVIDIA's new 9800 GX2 graphics processing unit (GPU) will look like. This card looks every bit as mean as some of the games it's been designed to run. Specifications haven't been confirmed yet, but this card will be based on the PCI Express 2.0 specification; it will have two GeForce 8800 graphics processing units, running in SLI mode. This mirrors what ATI has released recently with its Radeon HD 3870 X2 GPU, which is two Radeon HD 3870 GPUs running in CrossFire mode. This particular card from Albatron will have 1GB of memory, 512MB for each GPU.

  • The card looks to be draped in a heat sink from its neck to its feet, and there are plenty of vent holes to disperse the heat it will generate.

  • 8-pin and 6-pin PCI Express connectors are the order of the day, so this thing will definitely need a beefy power supply to run reliably. You can see the SLI connector on the right-hand side of the slide.
