Prepare for console Zombiegeddon!

When there’s no more room in hell...

  • Some zombies. (House of the Dead: Overkill)

  • Zombies. (Resident Evil 5)

  • Etc. (Dead Island)

  • A chainsaw-wielding maniac. Who might be a zombie. (Resident Evil 5)

  • A zombie. (Left4Dead)

  • Some different zombies. (Resident Evil 5)

  • Some zombies... no, hang on. (Left4Dead)

  • More zombies. (Left4Dead)

  • A bridge. And some zombies. (Left4Dead)

  • A zombie. (Dead Island)

  • Over the following months, four new zombie games are set to infect our consoles: House of the Dead: Overkill, Left4Dead, Resident Evil 5 and Dead Island. Check out the following slideshow for all the gruesome screenshots!

  • A zombie. (Resident Evil 5)

  • A flying zombie. Maybe. (Left4Dead)

  • Some more zombies. (House of the Dead: Overkill)

  • Resident Evil 5: After a brief stint with non-zombie Eastern European loonies, the Resident Evil franchise is back in its home turf (i.e. the graveyard). The ‘fifth’ game in the series (by our count, there have been more than 15 sequels) is set in Africa, which is apparently hugely controversial for some reason. The game is being developed by the same team behind the first game and will feature some of the same characters, including Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker (although we’re assuming the original voice ‘talent’ will not be returning). Resident Evil 5 is set to appear in March 2009 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
  • Some controversy. And some zombies.

  • Another zombie. (Dead Island)

  • Left4Dead: From the creators of Half-Life 2 comes this multiplayer bloodbath where you get the unique choice of playing as either the human survivors or the zombies! The game is a first-person shooter specifically designed for online co-op play, with in-game events changing to suit the flow of action. The game supports up to eight players, with four on either side. Left4Dead will be shambling into stores on 20 November on PC and Xbox 360.
  • A zombie. (House of the Dead: Overkill)

  • Dead Island: Dead Island is a new survival horror game from little-known Polish developers TechLand. Like its previous offering Call of Juarez, the game is played using a first-person perspective with sprawling, open-ended environments. Unlike House of the Dead: Overkill and Left4Dead, Dead Island focuses on ammo conservation and melee combat, with less emphasis on run-and-gun action. While little else is known about the game, the screenshots look awesome — just look at those Lucio Fulci-inspired zombies! Dead Island is slated for the PC and Xbox 360 formats and will be available in December.
  • A zombie in a sarong. (Dead Island)

  • Another zombie (Dead Island)

  • House of the Dead: Overkill: House of the Dead: Overkill is the latest putrid chapter in the popular light-gun zombie series. Beginning life as an arcade game back in the mid-1990s, the franchise has reassembled itself on the Nintendo Wii for a whole new legion of fans. Set before the events of the first game, Overkill has been gloriously described as "a fleshy rollercoaster ride of revolting dismemberment”. We can’t wait!
  • Three other zombies. (House of the Dead: Overkill)
