In Pictures: Most wanted Street Fighter X Tekken matchups

Match-ups that Capcom/Namco absolutely must include in the game

  • As you've no doubt heard by now, the world's biggest brawling maestros, Capcom and Namco, are about to face off with two new fighting titles: [[artnid:354542|Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter|Capcom, Namco Bandai developing Street Fighter-Tekken games]].

This is arguably the most anticipated crossover in video game history -- especially for one-on-one fighting fans. Whether you're a 2D Street Fighter purist or a combo-loving Tekken nut, it's hard not to get excited by this amazing announcement. The decision to produce two separate titles should ensure both camps are well catered to.

So far, only Ryu, Chun-Li, Kazuya and Nina are confirmed to appear in the game, but it’s a safe bet that the majority of fan favourites will make the cut. If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably mapped out your dream roster already.

With this in mind, we’ve assembled a list of Street Fighter/Tekken matchups that we most want to see in the game.

  • Nina Williams vs. Cammy

Battle of the blonde bombshells. It's the face-off that gamers are already calling [[artnid:336111|the curvy cosplay clash of the century]]. [No they aren't. -- Ed.] With their blistering speed and devastating leg-based attacks, picking a winner between these two is hard -- but we'll go with Cammy for posterity's sake.

    Our pick: Cammy
  • Jin Kazama vs. Ryu

Ryu and Jin are the unofficial poster boys of their respective franchises – which makes them a good, classic match-up. Both characters have a dependable roster of moves at their disposal, although we think Ryu's Haddokken may give him the edge. (Unless Jin breaks out the devil gene, natch.)

    Our pick: Ryu
  • Bruce Irving vs. Dhalsim

Tekken might not feature any rubbery-limbed opponents, but Bruce's gargantuan legs are long enough already. His incredible reach makes him a worthy adversary for the super stretchy Dhalsim. Kick his bony behind, Bruce!

    Our pick: Bruce
  • Kuma vs. Blanka

Rumble in the jungle! With their tendency to claw and bite their opponents during combat, this beastly dust-up is bound to get hairy. We can't wait to see Kuma try his signature bear hug -- singed fur will ensue.

    Our pick: Blanka
  • Ling Xiaoyu vs. Chun Li

Do we really need to explain this one? They're pretty much the same character.

    Our pick: Ling Xiaoyu
  • King vs. Zangief

King and Zangief are the undisputed power-houses of Tekken and Street Fighter, respectively. Both employ wrestling moves to handicap their opponents and rely heavily on grappling attacks. If you prefer to get up close and sweaty in your fighting games, these are the characters to pick.

    Our pick: Zangief
  • Yoshimitsu vs. Vega

Yoshimitsu and Vega are the only characters to sport blades -- so it's only fair that they should face off against each other. Vega's insufferable smugness is sure to wilt in the face of Yoshi's katana: hopefully the cyborg ninja will cut that Spaniard down to size.

    Our pick: Yoshimitsu
  • Paul vs. Guile

Battle of the flattops! The surly hard-men of Tekken and Street Fighter were destined to duke it out one day: there simply isn't enough hair gel in the world to sustain both of them.

    Our pick: Guile
  • Bob vs. Rufus

Hopefully they'll be enough room in the game for both of them. (Do you see what we did there?) In the immortal words of Homer Simpson: "Woo-hoo! Look at that blubber fly!"

    Our pick: Rufus
  • Balrog vs. Steve

The pugilist's choice. As the obligatory boxers, Steve and Balrog's impending clash in the ring is a no-brainer (insert boxing/brain damage joke here). Steve may have the edge when it comes to speed, but Barlog’s monstrous power is sure to mess up that pretty face fast. Legend tells that if you beat both characters in the single-player mode, you get to fight as Soda Popinski. Maybe.

    Our pick: Balrog
  • Jinpachi Mishima vs. Seth

We're joking of course. If either of these cheating abominations make it into the game, we'll weep bitter tears of anguish.

    Our pick: Neither
  • Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter are slated for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A release date has yet to be announced.
