Andrew McAfee The average U.S. worker is being left behind by advances in technology, according to economist and IT thinker Andrew McAfee, who studies how technology affects society, the economy, and the workforce. McAfee is a principal research scientist at MIT’s Sloan School of Management, and he wrote (with MIT’s Erik Brynjolfsson) a new book: The Second Machine Age: How the Digital Revolution is Accelerating Innovation, Driving Productivity, and Irreversibly Transforming Employment and the Economy. While our technologies are racing ahead, our skills and organizations are lagging behind, the authors assert: “So it’s urgent that we understand these phenomena, discuss their implications, and come up with strategies that allow human workers to race ahead with machines instead of racing against them.”
