Amazon Echo review: Betcha can't buy just one of these voice-activated connected-home controllers

The Echo is so awesome might want one in every room of your home.

  • The Echo has very few physical controls. The ringed segment controls the volume and there are two buttons on top: Press one to mute the mic array and the other to ready the Echo for a voice command (if you don't want to use its "wake-up" name.

  • Music is one of the Echo's best features, so it's a shame its speaker doesn't sound better.

  • Ask the Echo about traffic conditions, and Alexa will tell you how long your commute will last.

  • The Echo is outfitted with a moderately large woofer and a very large tweeter.

  • If there's an aspect of the Echo that you can't control with its native app, you might be able to cook up an IFTTT recipe to handle it.

  • The Echo can't recite recipes, but its app will point you in the right direction.
